FOTD using “Strange Potion” Lipglass

I am usually sporting “natural”/neutral makeup looks everyday for work since it’s super simple to do when you are pressed for time and because I am lazy M-F, haha. So I will try to incorporate some color this weekend (I apologize if the looks are starting to look the same as of late!). I wanted to do a look using MAC’s “Strange Potion” lipglass from the Venomous Villains collections (I am just in love with this color! It’s just so pretty on!) and my Urban Decay eyeliner in “Corrupt” (lower lashline) which is the perfect everyday eyeliner because it’s soft and not harsh like black eyeliners and yet brings your peepers out.

Sorry no close-up eye shots due to my photopsia, I am trying to avoid aggravating it with the camera flash. :(

What I used:
[Face]
– MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC35
– Buff’d Mineral Cosmetics (customized shade)

[Cheeks]
– MAC “Emote” blush for contouring forehead and cheeks
– MAC “Springsheen” blush

[Eyes]
– MAC e/s in “Bisque” and “Orb” all over the lid
– UD e/s in “Naked” on crease
– MAC Fluidline in “Blacktrack”
– Clinique Eyelash Primer
– Shiseido Lifting Mascara in Black
– UD eyeliner in “Corrupt” on lower lashline

[Lips]
– MAC lipglass in “Strange Potion” (LE)

Milani Pretty Pair Lipstick & Lipgloss

Many of you have asked the nailpolish colors I had on in some of my recent posts so here they are; I hope to do a post soon with a bunch of nailpolish swatches:

– In the YSL Primer Post, I wore Nina’s Ultra Pro Nailpolish (available at Sally’s Beauty Supply Store) in “Sweet Nothings” (like a lilac purple).
– For my toes and nails (in the post where I had the strappy shoes from Target), it’s Essie nailpolish in “No Boundaries”.
– My sister’s blue nailpolish (which was actually mine! LOL), is China Glaze nailpolish in “Frostbite”.

Anyhoo, I recently went to Target the other day to get some body wash and was walking around the cosmetic aisle (because it’s somehow euphoric and therapeutic to walk through familiar territory!) and I saw these new Milani lipstick and ligloss duos called “Pretty Pairs” ($6.99 at Target). Each shade name starts with a “Two”, for example the one I bought is “Two Perfect”, and examples of other shades are like “Two hot to handle” and “Two Cute”.CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE COLORS.

Product: 4 out of 5
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Quality: 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5
Shade I bought: Two Perfect
Additional shades available? Yes
Price: $6.99 at Target
Where to buy: Walgreens, Target, any retailer that sells Milani products
Would I buy again? Yes

They aren’t anything like the stay on lipsticks such as L’oreal’s Infallible lipstick, these are simply just a lipstick with a matching lipgloss in one with a pull out mirror on the back. They are pretty light-weight and tiny to carry around so it doesn’t occupy a lot of space, the lipstick can be worn alone or with the lipgloss if you wish. It has NO SPF protection, but this is just a really basic lipstick and lipgloss set on the go, and at a nice price! The lipstick is creamy and easy to apply, the lipgloss is too and they both don’t have a weird taste or smell (at least to me), the only thing I don’t like is the lipgloss brush wand, it’s stiff and super tiny; if they just tweak the brush wand it’s perfect for me.

It contains:
– Shea butter
– Vitamin E & A
– Avocado and Jojoba Seed Oil

I LOVE the color I got, “Two Perfect, it’s a nice nude-peach color in person, not super coral or orange, but a nice tinge of peach so it’s pretty wearable and I think it complements a good majority of skintones nicely without being washed out or overpowering. I definitely want to check out the other shades they have soon!

PROS:
– Affordable, moderately easy to find in most stores here in Cali
– No weird taste or smell
– Love the shade I got!
– Has a pull out mirror
– Easy to tote around in your purse, not overly bulky or heavy

CONS:
– Lipgloss brush wand is a bit stiff and tiny
– Even though they currently have more shades, it’s not a big selection, I think if they add more shades, that would be awesome!

Overall: Definitely like the one I got, and for you lippie lovers like me, definitely check it out the next time you are out and about!

Just the lipstick:

With the gloss:

Must-Have: Revlon Matte l/s in “Really Red”

Regarding my last post on the pepper spray, I had a few readers ask me where the BF got it from, and he got it at Sports Authority (formerly known as “Sport Chalet”) but I am sure any sporting goods store shall have it. There are so many crazies in the world, gotta protect yourself!

Anyway, here is a gorgeous red lipstick that is a must-have (and it’s drugstore!), not to mention very wallet-friendly! It’s the Revlon Matte Lipstick in “Really Red”, it’s such a nice deep red that I think would complement any skin tone because it’s just so pretty! And the best part, these lipsticks are under $10. (Varies from store to store, and of course state).

MAC “Pink Fish” vs. L’Oreal Lip Balm in “Plush”

A reader asked me to compare the MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner (TLC) in “Pink Fish” to the L’Oreal HIP Lip Balm in “Plush” to see if they are the same- but as you can see from the swatches, they are considerably different.

L’Oreal HIP Lip Balm in “Plush”

On the lips by itself:

MAC TLC in “Pink Fish”

Side by side comparison:

The differences? Other than the obvious differences such as the price and size (the TLC has more product); MAC’s TLC in “Pink Fish” is more pigmented and has more of a cooler blue-based pink whereas the L’Oreal HIP Lip Balm in “Plush” is more transparent in color. The consistency of “Pink Fish” feels like a normal potted lip balm where it’s not overly sticky and provides moisture to the lips; it also has SPF15. “Plush” has no SPF protection and is a bit sticky (and sweet!) and is also great over lipstick.

Overall, these two are pretty different, “Pink Fish” is pretty pigmented for a lip conditioner and is wonderful by itself to give the lips a nice soft and natural pink lip. Not to mention there’s enough product to last a really long time! And for those of you that love lip products with SPF, MAC’s TLC delivers in that aspect. If you are looking for something a bit more sheer, then L’Oreal Jelly Balms might be more for you.

MAC Creme Team Swatches

Here are my MAC Cream Team Swatches, these are of the Cremesheen finish and go on like a DREAM! The lipglosses didn’t tickle my fancy, but that’s a good thing! Again, I didn’t nab all the swatches because they were literally taken out of the stands every 5 seconds, and for half of the lippies, they didn’t get the shipment yet, but I am sure you can find these swatches online somewhere!

Like I mentioned in my last post, the lipglosses lacked pigmentation for my skintone, so I passed on those, but the lipsticks are a definite must have!

Studio Sculpt in my next post!

These are the ones I hauled: Shy Girl, Creme Cup, and Lavender Whip

Swatches, Haul, & Review: MAC Hello Kitty Colour Collection

As promised, here are some pics of my haul, some swatches as well as my thoughts on this collection. I will be posting swatches of Creme Team and Studio Sculpt next. I will try and do more FOTD’s from some of the recent collections soon. Since I hardly have been wearing full on makeup lately, I haven’t been doing any fotd’s, but I hope to start again soon!

I apologize I don’t have much of the swatches; during the unveiling, people kept grabbing products off the stands so half the time they weren’t there, and the MA told me that they didn’t get full shipments on some of the creme team lippies (which is why there are a few swatches missing!). I also swatched it on Erica’s arm because she has a darker skintone than me, so those of you who do have a similar skin color can compare and see if it’s a must have or not. To be honest I loved the way the lippies looked on her skin! It really brought them out. On me it was a bit washed out… :(

So my overall thoughts?
I like Hello Kitty, I am not a Hello Kitty fan as in I have Hello Kitty floormats and the toaster, but Hello Kitty’s Collaboration with MAC was an interesting one. This collection did NOT impress me as other collections in the past (C-Shock, Heatherette, Barbie, etc), but the packaging is SUPER cute, although I DO wish they kept the traditional color of Hello Kitty (Red & White), but nontheless I enjoyed it. The eyeshadow palettes in my opinion (again this is just MY opinion), were a bit disappointing because I personally didn’t think they stood out, nor were they that pigmented (other than Romping and Stylin), and it’s definitely colors that can be duped. Not to mention they are colors I know I would barely touch!

Glitter eyeliners, they always come back, the blushes reminded me of the Fafi Blushes, and they too were similar in color. The lipsticks by far are the MUST HAVES of this collection, ALL of them are gorgeous, especially “Strayin'” and “Fashion Mews”, and it has an imprinted face of Hello Kitty on the side of the lipstick! Beauty Powders I passed because I don’t use/need them, nailpolishes I always pass, and the lipglosses were a bit too glittery and kiddie for me.

The brush holder is very cute, it even has the Hello Kitty writing on the handles of the brushes; but the price is a bit much for plastic. Granted it IS Hello Kitty and it does have 3 brushes, but regardless, MAC jacks up the prices for some of their products and you KNOW you can find a Hello Kitty plastic cup that looks like that in Downtown LA and it probably comes with a backpack! LOL. It’s a tiny cup, so you can fit tiny collection brushes, kabuki brushes, and the like. Regular brushes will fall over if you attempt to put it in this cup. The tinted lip conditioner in “Pink Fish” is the PERFECT subtle pink, and it’s definitely a staple in my makeup bag because it not only conditions my lips, but gives it a nice natural pink color.

I really loved the Creme Team lipsticks. I totally love the Cremesheen finish, and the colors are just gorgeous and go on so smooth and creamy! The Creme Team Lipglosses however were eye-catching at first….till you swatch them. They were not pigmented whatsoever, and the swatches you see online are globs of this stuff so it looks really pigmented, but it’s not. It’s really sheer- and I mean REALLY sheer. None of it would show up on my skin at all, nor Erica’s. I passed on these for the simple fact that I like the lipglasses better. The Creme Team lipliners are gorgeous, “Caramellow” and “Pink Treat” are pretty (as well as the other 2)!

So what are my favorites? For lipsticks, they are ALL gorgeous, but my favorites are: “Strayin'” and “Most Popular” (“Fashion Mews” is pretty too but it washes me out). For the Creme Team lipsticks, I love “Creme Cup” and “Shy Girl”, lipliners I like “Caramellow” and “Sublime Culture”.
